What is the 8 O'clock Club?
Back at the start of lockdown, when the world was a bit upside down and most of us were craving some connection, the 8 O’Clock Club was born. What started as a way for creative adults to socialise and unwind online has since grown into a wonderfully weird, wonderfully welcoming drawing club… with a bit of a cheeky streak.
So, what is it?
The 8 O’Clock Club is a relaxed, online drawing session for adults who’ve had a tough week and just want to chill out with some doodling. Think of it as a pressure-free creative escape you can enjoy from your own sofa – no fancy skills needed, just a bit of paper, a Sharpie, and a sense of humour.
Each session is a step-by-step drawing tutorial that’s easy to follow, fun to do, and often ends up a little… well, more grown up. (Or immature, depending on how you look at it.) Whether it’s playful, rude, quirky or surreal, it’s always good fun and completely judgment-free.
When does it happen?
We meet online via Zoom, usually on the first and third Friday of every month at 8pm (UK time). The session lasts for at least an hour, often a bit longer if everyone’s in the zone.
What do I need to join in?
- Paper
- Pencil
- Twin tip Sharpie or similar marker pen
- And most importantly… a sense of humour!
Oh, and you must be 18 or over – this is a grown-ups-only space.
Who runs it?
Originally led by artist Korp, the club took on a new host in 2023: the brilliant Kirsty Moore, aka KDVM. Kirsty is a Posca-loving artist from the north of England whose work includes everything from upcycled KFC packaging to rappers-meet-insects mashups and saw blade illustrations. She was even a finalist in the Posca Artist of the Year competition. Under her guidance, the club has kept its signature playful vibe with a healthy dose of creative mischief.
What does it cost?
It’s just $10 a month, which gives you access to both monthly sessions, plus some tasty extras:
- Membership to the 8 O’Clock Club WhatsApp group
- Access to “adults only” drawing tutorials in the Community Space
Whether you're a total beginner, a lapsed artist, or just someone who wants a fun way to start the weekend, the 8 O’Clock Club is the perfect excuse to switch off, scribble something silly, and have a laugh with like-minded doodlers.
