This tutorial is a throwback to a live session from 2021 that I’ve brought back into the archive after a few members asked for it again.
In this session we fill an entire page with colourful beetles and insects using a really simple process. We start by blocking in the basic shapes, layer colours for the shells and wings, then bring everything together with bold black outlines, patterns, and textures.
Two larger beetles become the main focus, while smaller bugs are scattered around the page to fill the gaps. It’s a great exercise for experimenting with colour, repeating simple shapes, and ending up with a page that looks far more complex than it actually is.
