This one is a nice simple bird character built from a few basic shapes and a lot of attitude.
Big tired eye, droopy body, scruffy feathers and awkward little feet. It’s a good one for seeing how much personality you can get into a drawing without needing loads of detail.
The big lesson in this tutorial is learning how to build character through shape. The head, beak, wing, tail and feet are all pretty simple on their own, but when you push the curves, change the feather shapes and mess with the eye, the whole thing starts to feel alive.
