Krumm

In this tutorial, we’re drawing Crumb from Aaahh!!! Real Monsters using Promarkers and fineliners. It’s a weird, wonky character with eyeballs in his hands, oversized feet and plenty of hairy details, so there’s lots of room to make your version your own.

Bird-Eating Dog

In this tutorial we're drawing a wolf with a bird stuck in its mouth using a simple negative space technique. By colouring in the bird instead of drawing the teeth directly, the white of the page does all the hard work for you. It's a quick, fun project that encourages you to embrace wonky lines ...

Eyeball Pizza

Let’s draw a slice of pizza covered in eyeballs instead of pepperoni. It’s a fun one for practising drips, stretchy cheese and creepy little details with two black pens. Give it your own teeth and tongue to make it even weirder.

Intestine Ice Cream

This tutorial turns an ice cream into something a little more gruesome, with a big swirl of intestine-style ice cream sitting on top. We’ll also upgrade the waffle cone texture by using three different tones to give it more depth.

Tooth Full of Teeth

In this tutorial, we’re taking the Weird-uary ‘Lots of Teeth’ prompt quite literally by drawing a tooth with a mouthful of teeth and even more teeth inside its eyes. It’s a weird character, but the basic shapes keep it nice and easy to draw.

Odd Number Character

In this tutorial, we’re taking the Weird-uary prompt ‘Odd Number’ in both directions. We’ll build a strange face with too many eyes, noses, mouths and ears to show that characters don’t need to make anatomical sense to look interesting.

Fruity Animals

In this tutorial, we’re mixing fruit shapes with pig and mouse faces to create a page full of weird fruity animals. We’ll build them up using simple overlapping shapes, then add wonky lines and little details to bring each character to life.

Monkey Brains

In this tutorial, we’re taking the classic Heinz baked bean tin and giving it a slightly gruesome makeover. We’ll build an open tin filled with monkey brains, add a familiar-style label and finish it with a few shadows, highlights and extra details.

Tongue Eye Monster

We’re drawing a weird monster with three eyes, two tongues and plenty of exposed bone, teeth and torn skin. It’s a good one for playing with wonky lines, exaggerated details and different textures while building your own monster character.

Fried Egg Character

We’re turning a fried egg into a weird little character, with a big yolk face, wonky features and plenty of personality. A few simple shadows give the yolk and egg white some shape before we add the outlines, reflections and little details.

Tongue Eyes

We’re drawing a weird wonky head with tongues hanging out of its eye sockets. Using three tones for the skin builds up the shadows, then we’ll add chunky outlines, highlights, wrinkles and plenty of texture to make it even stranger.

Worm Head

We’re drawing a creepy character with a head full of holes and worms popping out in every direction. It’s a simple way to practise depth and direction, with the worms curving towards and away from you and little shadows helping the holes sink into the head.
