Cat on a Skull

Inspired by World of Monta’s detailed line work, we’re drawing a grumpy cat peeping over a skull. It’s a fun way to mix chunky outlines with tiny details and shading. Add some drips and ink splats to make it your own.

Retro Cat Seller

Inspired by Derek Yaniger and Kirsten Ulve, we’re drawing a shady salesman with a kitten tucked inside his jacket. It’s a fun way to try geometric shapes and use the white of the page for details against solid black. Add a few extras inside the jacket if you fancy it.

Cat in a Box

Let’s draw a cheeky cat in a cardboard box, with half-closed eyes and its tongue sticking out. It’s a fun way to practise a bit of 3D drawing and simple shadows. I’m going with a green cat, but use whatever colours you fancy.

Three Creepy Cats

Let’s draw three creepy cats around a tree, with an Elise Gravel-style spider hanging from the frame. It’s a fun way to play with black silhouettes, strange faces and little bits of fur. Give each cat its own personality.

John Kelly Green Cat

Inspired by John Kelly Green, this tutorial is all about big fat black lines and simple shapes. We’re drawing a chunky little cat with a top hat, bow tie and plenty of character using just a few black pens.

Cat Burger

This tutorial mashes together a cat and a burger to create one long, weird little character. We’ll stack it with cheese, lettuce and tomato, then use a couple of shades for each colour to add some simple shadows and blending.

Clown Cats

This tutorial mashes together cats and clowns using the Pussycat resource sheet. We’ll line up a bunch of different cats along a fence, then use a thin pen to give each one its own weird little clown makeover.

Red Dog Cat

This tutorial is all about creating a cheeky little dog-cat character using just reds and pinks. We’ll layer a couple of simple colour combinations to give it some shape, then finish it with chunky outlines, fur and big reflections.

Cat Donut

This tutorial combines two things that clearly belong together — a cat and a donut. We’ll keep the basic shape simple, then add drippy icing, sprinkles, big eyes and plenty of little details to make it your own.

Watermelon Cat

In this tutorial, we’re turning a few simple shapes into a watermelon cat. We’ll build up the classic watermelon colours with Posca pens, then add a few black details, seeds and reflections to finish it off.

Drippy Cartoon Cat

We’re drawing a rubberhose style cartoon cat and making the whole thing drip. Pencil guidelines help position the drips so they overlap cleanly, with wonky line work, big black areas and smaller details bringing everything together.

Three Creepy Cats

In this tutorial, we're drawing three creepy cats, starting with really basic shapes and gradually adding more detail. We'll build them up with strange faces, solid black shapes and finer line work to give each cat its own character.
