Paul Gill Bird Head

In this lesson we’re taking inspiration from artist Paul Gill and drawing a simple retro-style character with a bird sitting on top of its head. It’s a nice easy one, but there’s still plenty of room to play around with the shapes, colours and little weird details at the end.

One Track Mind

This one is based on John Kelly Green’s Nicker Bookers piece from One Track Mind week. It’s a nice easy drawing built from fat black lines, big shapes and loads of character. A good one if you want to loosen up, stop overthinking and just get something on the page. The big lesson in this tutorial...

Is It My Breath?

This one is based on John Kelly Green’s Is It My Breath? piece and it’s a great one for keeping things simple without ending up with a boring drawing. You only need three pens in different tones of the same colour, and most of the drawing is built from really basic shapes. That makes this a solid...

Montieth Faces

This one’s simple. The original idea comes from an illustration by Malcolm Montieth.I’ve broken it down into a resource sheet and this video tutorial so you can actually understand how this style works instead of just looking at it and guessing. You’re not designing characters. You’re building the...

Ugly Face

In this video we attempt to simplify a zombie drawing we did a few weeks ago by limiting the pens we use and switching some facial features. We also take inspiration from the blob faces tutorial. At just 30 minutes this is a great tutorial for when time is short but you want to draw something wit...

Blob Faces

This is a great excercise that builds on one of the core Korp Academy principles of drawing the same thing over and over. Essentially you will be drawing a face to fit a random blob of ink. We'll start this tutorial with a bit of structure before freestyling in the second half.

We use gaps in the black areas to create fake white lines that give this character a more obvious shape.

Illegems Face

This Posca drawing is based on a piece by Julie Illegems. I chose it because it demonstrates a nice technique we can use when dfrawing hair.

Pintachan’s Let It Grow

We’re taking Pintachan’s Let It Grow design and giving it a black and white twist. It’s a fun way to practise chunky lettering and use fine lines to create shading. Big beard, bold shapes and just three black pens.

Freddy Krueger

In this tutorial, we’re drawing Freddy Krueger in the playful, childlike style of Spanish art duo Pintachan. We’ll start with a really simple character before building up all those burnt, scarred details across the face.

Punk Hair

Practise drawing big punk hair using brush markers to build up individual strands and chunky sections of colour. We’ll use dark and light tones together, leaving some of the white paper showing through to give the hair a shiny finish.

Old Green Man

Inspired by Artistic Dyslexia’s Pirate Mushroom, this tutorial strips the character back into a weird old green man. We’ll build him up with bold shapes, two-tone colours and plenty of chunky details.
